Catch Marla Lou in “28” 🎬
Imani is here! There’s no doubt why my friend and fellow NYC public school - to - creative icon, Kylee Roberts, invited me to join this fierce cast: Imani is…me. Instead of an anticapitalist community leader and multi-hyphenated creative force, Imani’s resistance is channeled against gentrification as a cafe owner on the Lower East Side. Stream 28.
Still of Marla Lou as Imani in 28 | Pilot Episode
Before I left for the Hadestown tour in September 2023 I had the pleasure of going from table read to shooting the 28 pilot. Naturally, I fell in love with the piece instantly. Kylee and Fruit House Films dropped the pilot, baby! Now it’s time for you to tap in and see what 28 is all about. Stream the episode here. And enjoy the loving-but-about-her-business chaos that is Imani!
More on the series:
Learning the importance of grief, art and community. This series focuses on a third-generation U.S. citizen, New Yorker, D.J.. When her parents suddenly pass away, she inherits her childhood home: A historic brownstone in Downtown Manhattan purchased by her immigrant grandmother. In dealing with the tragedy of losing her parents, she bands together with her found family to make it a home for artists in need. We have no doubt that “28” will be an important part of the conversation around underrepresented voices, the harms of gentrification and help enact change off-screen in the future.
Friends making art that transforms our reality?! More please!
